The First Step Toward Establishing a Future Automobile Tuning Technical Support Cluster
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Gyeongbuk Province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Korea Transportation Safety Authority’s ‘Tuning Car Performance and Safety Testing Center’ at the Gimcheon 1st General Industrial Complex located in Eomo-myeon, Gimcheon.
About 150 people attended the event, including Ha Daeseong, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, the Director of Automobile Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Chairman of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, the Vice Mayor of Gimcheon, officials from related organizations, and representatives of related companies.
The testing center under construction is a core infrastructure of the ‘Automobile Tuning Technology Support Cluster Development Project,’ with a total project cost of 49.6 billion KRW, promoted by Gyeongbuk Province, Gimcheon City, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The testing center will be built on a site of 33,000,000㎡ with a total floor area of 6,233㎡, and by the end of 2023, nine types of advanced equipment for tuning car performance verification tests, impact coupling device tests, tuning lighting device tests, and other cutting-edge tuning automobile performance and safety inspections and certifications will be installed.
This center will serve as a national certification institution specializing in tuning, responsible for certifying automobile tuning parts, verifying the safety of tuning car driving performance, and providing professional technical support for all aspects of tuning automobiles.
Gyeongbuk Province plans to develop Gimcheon as a growth hub for the future-oriented tuning parts industry by establishing a Future Mobility Tuning Industry Support Center alongside the testing center, linked with tuning certification and aimed at providing technical support for future automobile and tuning parts companies.
Starting with this groundbreaking, the province plans to create an automobile tuning industry ecosystem through systematic support in areas such as technology development for verifying the performance and safety of advanced technology-applied tuning cars, and training specialized personnel for tuning car maintenance and safety inspections.
Additionally, it aims to revitalize the automobile tuning market and prepare for the upcoming new market of future mobility tuning industry.
In the third phase of the Gimcheon 1st General Industrial Complex, where the testing center is being established, advanced automobile manufacturers such as Woojin Sansun, an electric bus manufacturer, and automobile parts companies including SS Light, Taedong Tech, Samjin Precision, Geumseong Tech, and tuning parts company Neotech are scheduled to move in.
Ha Daeseong, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “With the establishment of this tuning car performance and safety testing center, we expect to meet some of the previously limited tuning certification demand caused by the lack of testing equipment and technology.” He added, “We anticipate that this testing center will play a key role as a core hub to respond to the increasing demand for future-oriented tuning and help the local automobile parts industry leap forward into the future mobility tuning industry.”
