[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] The National Assembly Intelligence Committee held a plenary session on the 26th and adopted the personnel hearing report on nominee Kim Gyu-hyun for the Director of the National Intelligence Service.

Kim Byung-gi, the opposition party secretary of the Intelligence Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, said to reporters after the National Assembly's closed plenary session that day, "It was decided to adopt the personnel hearing result report for the NIS Director." He explained, "The Democratic Party issued a comprehensive opinion of disqualification, and the People Power Party naturally issued a qualification opinion. Among the Democratic Party members, some expressed qualification opinions, but the majority expressed disqualification opinions." He added, "Since this is a personnel hearing for the head of national security, the reasons for qualification or disqualification will not be disclosed."

Ha Tae-kyung, the ruling party secretary of the Intelligence Committee from the People Power Party, said, "Due to the serious situation in inter-Korean relations, it seems the President will appoint him promptly," and added, "It seems he will be able to start work immediately."
