[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Lotte Food is switching its delivery vehicles for sales, following its business vehicles, to eco-friendly electric cars.
On the 26th, Lotte Food announced that it will convert 100% of its sales delivery vehicles at nationwide sales locations to eco-friendly electric cars by 2025. The total number of vehicles to be introduced is 159, with 20 units piloted this year in the Seoul metropolitan area, where the sales radius is relatively short. This marks the beginning of establishing an eco-friendly logistics system ahead of the ice cream peak season, when driving distances significantly increase.
The vehicles to be introduced are Hyundai Porter 2 Electric models, with 20 units this year, 50 units next year, 78 units in 2024, and a full transition to 100% eco-friendly electric cars by 2025. Charging facilities will also be additionally installed at each sales location to ensure no inconvenience in using electric vehicles on site.
Sales vehicles are deployed at sales locations nationwide and are used to deliver frozen and refrigerated products such as ice cream and processed meat to clients. Following last year’s industry-first provision of business electric vehicles to all sales personnel, Lotte Food is now replacing delivery vehicles with eco-friendly electric vehicles this year. The company expects to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,500 tons annually through this initiative.
Lotte Food has established the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) slogan "Go Green With Us" and is leading various eco-friendly management efforts including ▲industry-first provision of business electric vehicles to all sales personnel ▲development of strawless pack milk products reflecting children’s wishes ▲conversion to eco-friendly packaging for Pasteur delivery baby food ▲industry-first full adoption of eco-friendly gift set packaging ▲industry-first introduction of eco-friendly packaging for ice cream and frozen foods ▲establishment of an ESG committee and the creation of Environment Management and ESG teams.
A Lotte Food official stated, “We plan to continuously pursue sincere ESG management in all processes from manufacturing to delivery to meet consumers,” adding, “We will continue to take the lead in eco-friendly management and enhancing employee satisfaction.”
