Tuna Mayo! Don’t Go Back, ‘Mayo’

When you visit a convenience store you frequent like your own home, your steps naturally head first to the ready-to-eat meal section. This is because you can find unique new products exclusive to convenience stores. By the time I arrived at the triangular kimbap zone, positioned at the editor’s eye level, I suddenly wondered, "Which of the three major convenience stores has the most delicious triangular kimbap?" Various triangular kimbaps come and go, but the tuna mayo, which remains popular among all ages, never changes. The king of ready meals, tuna mayo! I tried it right away.

CU - 3XL Rich Tuna Mayo

The "3XL" printed on the packaging already feels reassuring. As expected, it has the largest size among the three major convenience stores at 173g. Not 2XL, but a whopping triple (3XL). When cut in half, the rice grains are clumped together, and when microwaved, the texture is slightly undercooked rice grains. It contains 14.98% tuna and 8.69% mayonnaise, but considering the size, I wish there was just a little more tuna mayo.

7-Eleven - Generous Tuna Mayonnaise

At 120g, smaller than other convenience stores, the price is cheaper. It contains 9.98% tuna and 6.04% mayonnaise, and it feels like it has the most tuna mayo. The mayonnaise is generously added, making it moist and full of savory flavor, truly the most tuna mayo-like. It has the most common rice grain texture for us. It uses seaweed from the southern coast, which has a sea scent that some people might find off-putting.

GS25 - Full Tuna Mayo

Unlike the triangular kimbap I’ve eaten so far, furikake is attached between the rice and seaweed. When cut in half, you can see the tuna, which is less moist. With 160g, 9.47% tuna, and 5.36% mayonnaise, it has a similar ratio to other convenience stores, but it feels like it has the least tuna, and it’s dry, making you think of ramen. Rather than the original taste of tuna mayo, the salty flavor of the furikake lingers in the mouth.
