[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kia and the taxi industry have joined forces to increase the supply of electric taxis. On the 25th, Kia announced that it recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Taxi Transport Business Association Federation and the National Private Taxi Transport Business Association Federation containing these details.
Under this agreement, Kia plans to increase opportunities for association members to experience electric taxis by holding briefing sessions and test drives to widely promote the recently launched Niro Plus taxi model. The Niro Plus is Kia's first Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV), featuring an expanded interior space and a display equipped with functions necessary for taxi operation such as a meter and a driving recorder.
Considering the longer driving distances typical of taxis compared to regular vehicles, Kia offers a high-voltage battery warranty of 10 years or 300,000 km, and has introduced a service that replaces batteries with affordable refurbished batteries when paid replacement is needed. Additionally, a membership service with a subscription-based charging fee plan has been launched to enable cheaper charging.
