Gyeonggi-do Expands Emergency Childcare Services

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is expanding the target group for emergency care services.

On the 25th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will provide emergency care services for residents who need care due to COVID-19 infection without a guardian, or sudden crisis situations such as illness or accidents, but cannot receive existing care services.

Emergency care services have been promoted by the province and the Gyeonggi Social Service Agency since February last year. When it is difficult to resolve with existing care service personnel, the Gyeonggi Social Service Agency Emergency Care Support Team is dispatched to homes or facilities.

Emergency care services are divided into COVID-19 emergency care and non-COVID-19 emergency care.

COVID-19 emergency care can be applied for when a person is confirmed with COVID-19 at home, resulting in self-quarantine and interruption of care services, and there is no guardian or alternative service to provide care.

It is also available when a care personnel gap occurs in social welfare facilities due to confirmed cases among workers, or when the city or county recognizes an urgent need for care due to COVID-19.

Non-COVID-19 emergency care includes ▲ cases where immediate care is needed due to sudden crisis situations such as illness or accidents ▲ cases where existing long-term care, activity support, and other services cannot be received in a timely manner ▲ cases where care is needed until other care services are connected.

So far, the province has dispatched 343 emergency care support team members and provided household and social activity support, home bathing, home nursing, and other services to 548 users of social welfare facilities and residents in the province.

Residents of Gyeonggi Province can apply for the service at their local eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center. City and county care-related officials can apply directly to the Gyeonggi Social Service Agency in case of emergency care situations.

On the 12th, the province held an emergency care project briefing session at Dasan Hall of the Gyeonggi Human Resources Development Institute for officials in charge from 31 cities and counties in the province to enhance understanding of care-related public officials and cooperation with cities and counties.

In addition, as the demand for emergency care increases, the province is continuously recruiting emergency care support team members until the emergency care situation ends. Those with care-related certifications such as care workers and social workers can apply.

Yoon Young-mi, Director of the Welfare Policy Division of the province, explained, "We will strengthen the non-COVID-19 emergency care project to resolve the care gap concerns during the government's full lifting of social distancing and the process of returning to daily life."
