WHO "131 Confirmed Cases of Monkeypox, 106 Suspected Cases"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Confirmed cases of monkeypox are continuously increasing.

On the 24th (local time), according to the World Health Organization (WHO), major foreign media reported that 131 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in 19 countries worldwide, with 106 suspected cases recorded.

Monkeypox is one of the endemic diseases in Central and West Africa, and since the first confirmed case was reported in the United Kingdom on the 7th, infections have appeared mainly in Europe and North America.

WHO currently reports that the symptoms of monkeypox infections are not severe.

On this day, WHO convened a related meeting to provide information to member countries for monkeypox prevention.

WHO has also stated that outside of Africa, where monkeypox is endemic, outbreaks can be controlled by early detection and isolation.

Monkeypox spreads through physical and skin contact, and symptoms include high fever, chills, headache, lymph node swelling, and vesicular rash spreading on the face, hands, and feet. These symptoms are similar to the early symptoms of smallpox, and it is known that the smallpox vaccine provides 85% protection.
