[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The People Power Party's Hope Gyeongnam Election Countermeasures Committee strongly criticized Yang Mun-seok, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Gyeongnam governor, on the 24th.
"Debates are stipulated by election law to properly convey the candidates' visions and pledges to help voters make informed choices," they explained. "The content and proceedings are determined by the election commission, which selects topics after consulting civic groups and various sectors, and the process is conducted strictly and fairly."
"Candidate Yang frequently interrupted other candidates during the MBC Gyeongnam governor candidate TV debate on the 23rd and often exceeded his allotted response time," they pointed out. "He even showed behavior that completely ignored the topics set by the election commission."
"His intention to degrade the debate, which is for residents to choose their candidate, into a tool for political strife while failing to properly explain his own pledges is highly improper," they criticized. "As the candidate for governor from the ruling party, his judgment and conscience are in question."
On the same day, the election committee stated, "Candidate Yang Mun-seok, who disrespected the residents during the debate and degraded it into a tool for political strife to cover his ignorance, must apologize to the residents."
"Our party will strive to ensure a fair election by adhering to the principles of listening to the voices of residents, holding an open election where anyone can express their opinions, and conducting a clean election without any illegal activities," they added.
