First-Come, First-Served Enrollment for 12,000 Elementary, Middle, and High School Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Korea Newspaper Association announced on the 25th that it will distribute the '2022 Newspaper Article Underlining and Enjoyable Reading Newspaper Utilization Education (NIE) Passport' free of charge to elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide.
The passport is an NIE workbook designed to enhance literacy (the ability to read and understand texts) and develop reading and writing habits among elementary, middle, and high school students by completing activities such as reading newspaper articles to improve vocabulary, understanding, analyzing, comparing, and summarizing articles, and reading articles focusing on facts and opinions.
Starting from 10 a.m. on the same day, the Newspaper Association will recruit 12,000 students (4,000 elementary, 4,000 middle, and 4,000 high school students) on a first-come, first-served basis through the association's website. Each student can apply for one copy, and group applications are limited to a maximum of 50 copies per school.
Students must complete the 12 activity tasks presented in the passport, receive a confirmation stamp from a teacher or parent, and submit it to the Newspaper Association by September 23. For group entries, each team must have at least 10 participants.
Awards include certificates and a total prize money of 8.8 million KRW. Schools winning group awards will receive 1 million KRW, while individual winners will be awarded as follows: Grand Prize (3 persons) 1 million KRW each, Excellence Award (3 persons) 500,000 KRW each, Merit Award (6 persons) 300,000 KRW each, and Encouragement Award (30 persons) 50,000 KRW each.
