50-Year-Old Woman Booked for Damaging Election Banners Ahead of Local Elections

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] A woman in her 50s who twice damaged the campaign banners of the People Power Party candidate running in Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City for the June 1 nationwide local elections was apprehended by the police.


On the 24th, the Gwangju Northern Police Station announced that they had booked the woman, identified as A, in her 50s, without detention on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.


A is suspected of removing the People Power Party Buk-gu council candidate's banner near Malbau Market in Buk-gu around 7 a.m. on the 22nd.


She is also accused of removing the same candidate's banner around 11 p.m. on the 20th.


It was confirmed that A untied the strings of the banner tied between trees and dropped it on the ground.


During the police investigation, A stated that she took such action because the banner was obstructing her path while walking.


The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
