BLACKPINK, Cover Models for US Rolling Stone... 'First Asian Girl Group'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The four-member girl group BLACKPINK has graced the cover of the famous American music magazine Rolling Stone. This marks the first time an Asian girl group has achieved this record.

On the 23rd (local time), Rolling Stone selected BLACKPINK as the cover model for its June issue, stating, "After years of requests, they have finally made it to the cover," describing them as a 'Pop Supernova.'

It added, "BLACKPINK is one of the most popular artists produced by Korea," and "Their tremendous success is part of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), indicating the global popularity of Korea's cultural industry."

Rolling Stone also praised, "BLACKPINK's music explodes with energy. It is invigorating yet addictive," and "They create sparks by mixing hip-hop beats with house and electronic dance music (EDM)."

Although not mentioned in Rolling Stone's report that day, according to an entertainment specialized foreign media outlet, BLACKPINK is the third girl group to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone after the British Spice Girls and the American Destiny's Child, and the first Asian girl group to do so.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jennie said, "BLACKPINK's hip-hop is something the world has never seen before," adding, "Our hip-hop is not rebellious. But we believe we make great music."

Also, Jisoo shared in the interview, "My mom and dad are proud of me, but I don't feel like a world star," and "My position may have changed, but I am still the same me."

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is preparing for a comeback as early as July this year. Afterwards, they plan to embark on a world tour to meet fans in person.
