[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Jong-min] A 'Seoul Park' will be established in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. The Mexico City government’s Urban Planning Committee recently approved a plan to create 'Seoul Park (Plaza Seul)' in the Cuauht?moc district, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Mexico announced on the 23rd (local time).

Seoul Park in Mexico City will be created in a rectangular shape approximately 60m wide and 10m long next to Chapultepec Avenue in the 'Zona Rosa' area, where Korean stores are concentrated.

This park project was decided to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Mexico this year, as well as the 30th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Seoul and Mexico City. Rafael Gregorio G?mez, head of Mexico City’s Urban Development Department, expressed hope that the establishment of Seoul Park will further activate cultural and human exchanges between the two countries, according to the embassy.

Seo Jeong-in, Ambassador to Mexico (photo), said, "Following the Korean Pavilion installed in Chapultepec Park in 1968 and the Bell of King Seongdeok installed in the Bicentennial Park in 2011, Seoul Park will become another landmark symbolizing the friendship between Korea and Mexico within Mexico City."
