‘The Future Begins Exhibition’ with the late world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid Architects
‘Hanok Concert’ and ‘Traditional Experience Programs’ held in traditional Hanok houses
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 24th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it has prepared unique cultural and artistic programs targeting both domestic and foreign visitors in line with the improvement of the COVID-19 situation. The goal is to enhance Seoul's content competitiveness by hosting performances and exhibitions that can only be seen in ‘Seoul’ and at the same time contribute to revitalizing local commercial districts.
First, director Tim Burton will exceptionally hold a special exhibition in Seoul for the first time in 10 years. In addition, the architectural firm of the late world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid (ZHA) will hold the first-ever exhibition of ‘Future Architecture,’ co-planned with Refik Anadol Studio (RAS), which hosted Seoul Light. Furthermore, centered around Namsangol Hanok Village where visitors can enjoy the beauty of traditional Korean hanok houses, programs such as the ‘Hanok Concert’ and ‘Traditional Culture Experience Program’ will be held to welcome both domestic and foreign tourists.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is holding the ‘Tim Burton Special Exhibition: The World of Tim Burton’ at the Design Exhibition Hall on the B2 floor of DDP Learning Center until September 12, and ‘Meta-Horizons The Future Now’ at the Design Museum on the 2nd floor of the Learning Center until September 18. At Namsangol Hanok Village, the ‘Namsangol Hanok Concert,’ where visitors can feel the charm of hanok, has been held every Friday from May 6 to July 8, and from June 7 to 29, the ‘Young Gugak City樂’ performances featuring young gugak musicians will be held every Tuesday and Wednesday. With the end of COVID-19 social distancing measures, the ‘core’ program of Namsangol Hanok Village, the ‘Namsangol Traditional Experience,’ will resume, attracting domestic and foreign visitors to the Namsan and Myeongdong areas.
Joo Yong-tae, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Culture Headquarters, said, “We will continue to present differentiated cultural and artistic programs that can only be experienced in ‘Seoul.’ We also expect that the continuous flow of domestic and foreign visitors will contribute to the revival of local commercial districts such as Dongdaemun and Myeongdong.”
