Establishment of 'Kiwoom Center' for Children in Need of Care and Creation of 'One-Stop Comprehensive Support' for Education, Welfare, and Culture... Expansion of 'National and Public Daycare Centers' and Planned Construction of 'Public Postpartum Care Centers'... Creating a 'Safe' and Livable Environment for Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Tae-woo, the People Power Party candidate for Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, announced, “I will make Gangseo-gu a ‘Children’s Welfare Village’ where children can live well.”
As of 2020, the total fertility rate in Gangseo-gu was 0.675, lower than the national average of 0.837. Regarding this, Candidate Kim stated, “There should be no situation where people cannot have children due to financial or educational concerns,” and expressed strong determination by saying, “Gangseo children will be raised by the Gangseo District Office.”
Candidate Kim, working in harmony with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, said, “We will build a ‘Kiwoom Center’ for children who need after-school care and create a ‘Seoul-style Kids Cafe,’” adding, “We will establish a ‘one-stop comprehensive support’ system where children’s education, welfare, and culture in Gangseo-gu are integrated and operate smoothly.”
He also expressed his intention to “expand public daycare centers and provide high-quality education and care for infants and toddlers, and build a ‘district-run public postpartum care center.’”
This appears to reflect his commitment to systematizing the operation of the ‘Nuri Curriculum’ for education and care provided to infants and toddlers (ages 3 to 5), as well as to sparing no support for low birthrate issues and childcare.
Furthermore, Candidate Kim said, “I am also the head of a family with a 10-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter,” and added, “I will do my best to create an environment where children can grow up most safely, and develop Gangseo-gu into a ‘Children’s Safety Village’ through a strong crime prevention system and a dense social safety net.”
