Professor Jang Dong-seok, Senior Food Engineering Expert at National Pukyong University, Donates 50 Million Won to Alma Mater

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Jang Dong-seok, an emeritus professor at Pukyong National University and a pioneer in the field of food engineering in Korea, generously donated 50 million KRW of his personal funds to support talent development in this field and the advancement of Pukyong National University.

On the morning of the 23rd, Pukyong National University held a donation ceremony at the president’s office on the 3rd floor of the university headquarters, attended by Emeritus Professor Jang Dong-seok and President Jang Young-soo, among others.

On this day, Professor Jang handed over 50 million KRW to President Jang Young-soo, saying, “I hope that Pukyong National University, the cradle of talent development in Korea’s food engineering field, will continue to contribute to nurturing outstanding future talents.”

Professor Jang, a graduate of the predecessor institution Busan Fisheries College, worked at the National Fisheries Promotion Institute before joining his alma mater as a professor in the Department of Food Engineering. He devoted over 30 years to educating future scholars and advancing academic research, retiring in 2005.

Professor Jang has served as president of the Korean Society of Food Hygiene and Safety, the Korean Fisheries Society, the Korean Fisheries and Marine Science Association, and the Korean HACCP Research Association. He is recognized as a leading scholar in Korea’s fisheries food hygiene field as a member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and a lifetime member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea.

Professor Jang Dong-seok said, “Even after retirement, I have been proud and affectionate toward the school as I kept hearing about its progress, and I have been thinking about donating. I am glad to be able to put this into practice. I hope this small contribution will help Pukyong National University develop as a university representing the region and the nation.”

President Jang Young-soo of Pukyong National University said, “We will carry forward the spirit of our teacher, Professor Jang, and all members, including myself, will unite our efforts to further develop the university.”
