[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeollabuk-do is expected to become a cradle for cultivating global bio talent.
On the 23rd, the city announced that it was selected for the Pharmaceutical Industry Future Workforce Training Center project, worth 18 billion KRW (12.6 billion KRW national funds, 1.62 billion KRW provincial funds, 3.78 billion KRW city funds), led by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, together with Jeollabuk-do and Jeonbuk National University.
Accordingly, the city will establish state-of-the-art educational facilities meeting international standards in the Sinjeong-dong Research and Development Special Zone.
Through this, it will train 1,200 pharmaceutical industry professionals annually who meet global standards, laying the foundation to lead the global pharmaceutical industry.
The "Pharmaceutical Industry Future Workforce Training Center project" aims to build facilities and equipment at GMP level, the international standard for pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality control, and to cultivate high-quality pharmaceutical industry talent through pharmaceutical research and development education.
Until now, the Honam region has faced difficulties in practical training due to lack of infrastructure for pharmaceutical practice, but with this project selection, various pharmaceutical practice opportunities will be provided to university students majoring in pharmaceutical and bio-industries.
In particular, it is expected to offer diverse practical experiences through joint research linked with advanced institutions located in the Sinjeong-dong Research and Development Special Zone, such as the Advanced Radiation Research Institute, the Biotechnology Research Institute, and the Safety Evaluation Research Institute.
The city and Jeollabuk-do plan to foster Jeongeup’s Research and Development Special Zone as the mecca of the Honam region’s pharmaceutical industry by advancing the industrial structure and workforce training centered on pharmaceutical and bio-industry technologies.
Additionally, through the Pharmaceutical Industry Future Workforce Training Center, they plan to support pharmaceutical-related companies with raw material and finished drug analysis, clinical and non-clinical analysis, and provide various support platform services such as pharmaceutical safety testing.
Especially, by conducting consulting that meets international GMP standards, they aim to assist domestic companies in entering overseas markets, attract pharmaceutical-related companies to the Honam region, and contribute to the development of the local industrial economy.
A city official said, “This project selection is the result of joint efforts by Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do, and Jeonbuk National University,” and added, “We will do our best to help Jeongeup City leap forward as a global pharmaceutical industry hub through this project.”
