Homeplus Culture Center Expands Education Support Program... "New Talent Donation by University Students" On the 21st, the lecture "Drama Play to Get Friendly with English: The Wizard of Oz" is being held at Homeplus Gangseo Branch in Seoul.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Homeplus announced on the 23rd that it will actively carry out an education support project utilizing its cultural center infrastructure.

Homeplus is expanding its existing social contribution activities, which were mainly focused on helping neighbors, to include education support projects for children and adolescents such as university student talent donation and learning tutoring. The target group ranges from 1st grade elementary to 3rd grade high school students, and the company plans to create synergy by collaborating with government agencies, organizations, and companies.

The university student talent donation program will be newly established in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, Korea University Student Education Donation Group, National Association of Regional Child Centers, and National After-school Instructor Association. In the first semester of 2022, 23 university students will provide quality learning to elementary students through the program "Shouts, Echoes of Dreams." Representative stores will be selected mainly in provincial areas lacking educational infrastructure to offer customized courses once a week (5 to 8 sessions each) until July 16, including ▲The Wizard of Oz, a play to get familiar with English (Seoul Gangseo Branch) ▲First Steps in Integrated Science for Children: Science in Daily Life Classroom (Gangwon Chuncheon Branch) ▲Popular Science Experiment Series: Experiment King Today (Gwangju Hanam Branch) ▲Social Science Exploration through Jeju Island’s Geography (Jeju Seogwipo Branch).

There are also plans to implement a learning tutoring program for educationally disadvantaged groups. By providing curriculum classes for 4th grade elementary to 1st grade middle school students at 10 cultural center branches, Homeplus aims to reduce learning gaps and help improve future capabilities. In addition to academic learning, comprehensive learning mentoring including emotional and behavioral cultural programs will be supported.

Lee Won-kyung, head of the Homeplus Cultural Center Team, said, “Based on Homeplus’s ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) mid- to long-term strategy, we will contribute to providing quality education for future generations. We will encourage more participation to create a Homeplus that shares and grows together.”
