[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 23rd that it will provide an additional emergency living expense of 500,000 KRW in cash to newly approved recipients of the 5th Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, who are special types of workers (teukgo, teuksuhyeongtae geunrosangsa) and freelancers with their resident registration address in Seoul.
New recipients refer to those who have not received the previous Emergency Employment Stability Support Funds (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds) and have newly applied for and received the 5th round support fund for the first time as special types of workers and freelancers. The Ministry of Employment and Labor accepted applications for new recipients in March and is currently reviewing and disbursing the support funds.
This emergency living expense for Seoul’s special types of workers and freelancers will be paid quickly in cash within 7 days without a separate review, provided that the applicant’s address is in Seoul as of the announcement date and proof of receiving the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s 5th Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund is submitted.
The application period for new recipients of the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s 5th support fund is from the 23rd to June 12th, and applications can be easily submitted online through the ‘Seoul Special Types of Workers and Freelancers Emergency Living Expense Application Site.’ When applying, only the ▲resident registration abstract and ▲proof of deposit for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s 5th Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund need to be submitted.
Seoul City is also extending the online application period until the 12th of next month for not only new recipients of the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s 5th support fund but also ‘existing recipients’ who missed the application deadline or were unable to prepare documents for various reasons, and on-site applications are also possible.
Jang Young-min, Seoul City’s Labor Policy Officer, said, “This emergency living expense payment is a quick and practical support measure for special types of workers and freelancers who have been experiencing prolonged economic difficulties due to COVID-19,” adding, “The application documents are simple, and the payment is made in cash within 7 days, so we encourage everyone to apply without omission.”
