[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Kang Yong-seok, an independent candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, pledged to lift development restrictions in northern Gyeonggi and make Seongnam and Gwanggyo the core pillars of South Korea's economy.

On the 22nd, during a campaign rally at Pyeongnae Hopyeong Station Plaza in Namyangju, candidate Kang emphasized, "It is time to lift the restrictions that have been in place for 40 years. We must promote the development of Namyangju by lifting the Green Belt and removing the water source protection zones."

Regarding the improvement of Namyangju's transportation environment, he said, "The subway extension plan requires a complicated process including Seoul City's budget and approval from the National Assembly," adding, "We need to propose a plan that can be implemented within four years using Gyeonggi Province's budget."

He promised, "There is a difference in housing prices between living in an apartment near a station and one that might become a station area. I will establish two subway branches and make them station areas within my four-year term."

On the population influx into Gyeonggi Province, he stated, "Despite being the region most burdened by regulations nationwide, the population continues to increase steadily because of its advantageous location."

At a rally held at Yatap Station Plaza in Bundang, Seongnam, he emphasized the development of Seongnam and Bundang, saying, "I will attract world-leading companies like Apple and Amazon, which have only been heard of in words, to Seongnam to bring in talented individuals so that we can sustain ourselves for at least 100 years."

He added, "My idea is to make Seongnam citizens employees of these global leading companies," and said, "Gwanggyo will become a core pillar of South Korea's economy."

Confident about the TV debate scheduled for the 23rd, Kang criticized, "The reason Gyeonggi Province cannot prosper is due to various regulations, yet people who are unaware of this are running as candidates from the two major parties."

He continued, "I will reveal why candidates Kim Dong-yeon and Kim Eun-hye are called the Kim siblings. These are project-based pledges that can be executed within four years, and only Kang Yong-seok can fulfill them," expressing confidence.

Regarding unification talks with candidate Kim Eun-hye, he said, "I proposed simple conditions for unification: 'three bilateral TV debates' and 'public opinion polls,' but she has not responded. If Kim Eun-hye does not accept this at the TV debate on the 23rd, I will continue my campaign to the end."

Additionally, on the pledge to relocate Seongnam Airport, he emphasized the necessity of the move and the importance of developing the relocation site, stating, "Seongnam Airport imposes height restrictions that hinder urban development, and being about 60 km from the Demilitarized Zone, it is highly likely to become a major target in wartime."
