Starting from the 18th, the Solo Meal Project officially launches, delivering Mille-Feuille Nabe ready meals to a total of 150 single-person households... Collaborating with hy (formerly Korea Yakult), Fresh Managers personally deliver to single-person households' homes
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seocho One-Person Household Support Center conducted the ‘Honbap Project’ for single-person households in celebration of Family Month in May.
The center is a welfare institution supporting single-person households, established by Seocho-gu in 2019 as the first basic local government to provide various services such as health, safety, daily life, and relationship care for single-person households.
According to a recent survey on single-person households released by Seoul City, 55% of respondents living alone said the most difficult part was ‘meal preparation.’
In response, the center prepared Mille-Feuille Nabe ready meals and delivered them to a total of 150 people starting from the 18th. The delivery was supported by hy (formerly Korea Yakult), with Fresh Managers personally delivering the meals to the recipients’ doorsteps.
Last year, the center provided side dishes consisting of fresh kimchi and dried shredded squid to 100 young single-person households through the spring Honbap Project, but there were inconveniences such as having to visit designated restaurants in person and relatively short storage periods.
To improve this, from this year the project switched to ready meals that can be cooked alone and delivered directly to the doorstep, receiving great responses from single-person households.
Additionally, starting in June, a social dining program called ‘Happy Table’ will be operated to help young and middle-aged single-person households (with median income below 160%) improve dietary independence and enhance relationships. Single-person households wishing to participate can apply after registering as members on the Seocho One-Person Household Support Center website.
A district official stated, “We plan to expand customized services to respect the increasing diversity of single-person household lives each year and to prevent vulnerability caused by loneliness and relationship disconnection.”
