Kim Su-young, Yangcheon District Mayor Candidate, Urges Immediate Implementation of Government and Seoul City Reconstruction Revitalization Policies

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Soo-young, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Yangcheon District Mayor, along with other candidates running in Yangcheon District and the heads of the Yangcheon District Gap and Eul regional committees, issued a statement on the 22nd urging the government and Seoul city to immediately implement policies to revitalize reconstruction.

In particular, Kim Soo-young, candidate for Yangcheon District Mayor, emphasized the need for proactive measures from the government and Seoul city, saying, “The new government has delayed the relaxation of reconstruction safety inspection standards, and Seoul city has postponed the designation of land transaction permission zones. In addition, the remarks related to the Sinjeong Vehicle Base by Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon have caused great distress among Yangcheon residents.”

Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, and the Yoon Suk-yeol government must immediately stop mocking the Yangcheon residents who hope for reconstruction

Yangcheon residents had high expectations for President Yoon’s campaign promises during the presidential election, such as the ‘relaxation of reconstruction safety inspection standards’ and ‘exemption from safety inspections for apartments over 30 years old.’ However, less than ten days after inauguration, residents cannot hide their disappointment. It was revealed that the government postponed the implementation of the ‘relaxation of safety inspection standards’ pledge until the first half of 2023, and there has been no mention at all regarding the pledge to exempt safety inspections for apartments over 30 years old.

The ‘relaxation of reconstruction safety inspection standards,’ a long-standing wish of Yangcheon residents, was also a key campaign promise of President Yoon. However, this earnest hope of the residents was thoroughly ignored after the election. Meanwhile, major reconstruction projects in the Gangnam 3 districts have already passed safety inspections, and new towns such as Ilsan and Bundang, developed after the Mokdong apartment complex, the representative apartment complex of Yangcheon District, have promised reconstruction revitalization as a campaign pledge, raising issues of fairness.

A similar situation occurred last year. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who had promised to “start by lifting restrictions immediately,” instead re-designated 14 complexes in the Mokdong housing development area of Yangcheon District as land transaction permission zones. The designation of the Mokdong apartment complex as a land transaction permission zone was scheduled to expire on April 26, but Seoul city re-designated it, extending it for another year until April 26 of next year. This is a clear infringement on property rights and cannot be seen as anything but deception before and after the mayoral election. Yangcheon residents were betrayed twice after trusting the campaign promises of the People Power Party’s Seoul mayor and president.

Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, and the Yoon Suk-yeol government must immediately stop exploiting the earnest wishes of Yangcheon residents only during election seasons and then ignoring them after the elections.

All Democratic Party candidates running in Yangcheon District and the heads of the Gap and Eul regional committees strongly demand the government and Seoul city immediately implement the relaxation of reconstruction safety inspection standards and abolish the designation of the Mokdong apartment complex as a land transaction permission zone.
