On the 15th, the first weekend after the opening of Cheong Wa Dae, many citizens visited Cheong Wa Dae in Jongno-gu, Seoul. In response to the sharp increase in pedestrian traffic due to the full opening of Cheong Wa Dae, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will pilot a car-free street on the road in front of Cheong Wa Dae (from Hyoja-dong Fountain to Chun Chu Gate) during the Cheong Wa Dae opening event period. [Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The number of visitors to Cheong Wa Dae, which opened on June 10, the inauguration day of President Yoon Suk-yeol, has surpassed 370,000.
The Presidential Office announced that the special event "Cheong Wa Dae, Back to the People," held from June 10 to 22, was successfully concluded with great public support.
During the special event period from June 10 to 22 at 11 a.m., a total of 377,888 people visited Cheong Wa Dae, and 59,536 hikers used the Bukaksan Mountain trail connected to Cheong Wa Dae.
During this event, the Cheong Wa Dae Grand Garden and Nokjiwon were also opened to the general public. Additionally, photo opportunities became available in front of major buildings such as the Main Hall and the Presidential Residence.
Various cultural events linked to the opening, such as the Gyeongbokgung Palace Royal Culture Festival, were held in the nearby Cheong Wa Dae area. Notably, Bukaksan Mountain, fully opened for the first time in 54 years since the so-called "Kim Shin-jo Incident," attracted about nine times more hikers than the same period last year, totaling 59,536 visitors.
The Presidential Office decided to first open the State Guest House and the Chunchoo-gwan, whose interior organization was completed starting June 23, to meet the nationwide interest in the building interiors, and plans to sequentially open other buildings such as the Main Hall and the Presidential Residence later.
The number of applicants for Cheong Wa Dae visits surpassed 4.97 million as of midnight on June 22, and applications for visits up to July 11 are currently available through the Naver app, KakaoTalk, and Toss. A new reservation system is expected to be introduced starting July 12.
Meanwhile, it is reported that President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon-hee will attend the KBS "Open Concert" held at Cheong Wa Dae that evening.
