According to Yoon Gun-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, former President Moon spoke with President Biden from 6:52 p.m. for about 10 minutes on the 21st. Former President Moon welcomed President Biden's first visit to Korea, saying, "I regretted not being able to say farewell in person after my term ended, so I am grateful that we could have this call." He also congratulated him on successfully completing their first Korea-U.S. summit and added, "I hope that the Korea-U.S. relationship will further develop on the solid foundation that the two of us have established for the Korea-U.S. alliance."
President Biden referred to former President Moon as a "good friend" and said, "I have fond memories of our first summit at the White House a year ago, where we laid a historic foundation for strengthening the Korea-U.S. alliance." He also expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your efforts to strengthen the Korea-U.S. alliance." Additionally, he said, "I look forward to meeting former President Moon again," and expressed thanks for the gift sent by former President Moon. Both sides exchanged regards for their families and expressed hopes that the trust and friendship between the two would continue.
Meanwhile, former President Moon presented President Biden, who is visiting Korea, with a cross made by melting the barbed wire from the Military Demarcation Line. This gift carries the meaning of wishing for peace on the Korean Peninsula. Furthermore, Mrs. Kim Jung-sook is known to have gifted Dr. Jill Biden, President Biden's wife, a silk lap blanket along with a handwritten letter, and a hanbok for their two-year-old grandson.
