[Asia Economy Golf Specialist Reporter Kim Hyun-jun] It is Kim Min-gyu's (21) challenge to become the ‘Match King’.

On the 21st, at De Beach Golf Course (par 72, 7,216 yards) in Geoje-si, Gyeongnam, the third day of the KPGA Korean Tour Descente Korea Munsingwear Match Play (total prize money 800 million won) resumed. Shin Sang-hoon (24) defeated Lee Jun-seok (Australia) by 5 holes and 3 holes respectively, rising to 1st place in Group C (8 points). Ok Tae-hoon (24) is in 2nd place (2 wins, 5 points). This tournament has an unconventional format where, after the round of 32, 16 players are divided into 4 groups and play 3 group league matches later. The top player in each group advances to the final and the 3rd-4th place match based on points.

Even if a player wins all 3 matches, qualification for the final can be canceled depending on the results of players in other groups. That is why securing points is important. In Group B, Park Eun-shin (32, 7 points) and Moon Kyung-jun (40, NH Nonghyup Bank, 6 points) both secured 2 wins and are competing for 1st place. Kim Min-jun (32) is dominating Group D with the only 2 wins (6 points). It is interesting that ‘No. 1 seed’ Ham Jeong-woo (28, Hana Financial Group) suffered 2 losses in Group A. Kim Jae-ho (40, 2 points) and Kim Young-soo (33, 1 point) are tied with 1 win and 1 draw, and Park Sung-guk (34) has 1 win and 1 loss in a ‘close contest’.
