[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 20th that it was selected as an excellent local government in the winter welfare crisis household discovery and support evaluation and received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.
This evaluation selected a total of 23 local governments based on their performance in discovering and supporting vulnerable groups during the winter seasons (November to February) from 2021 to 2022 nationwide.
Seo-gu was the only district among the five autonomous districts in Gwangju to receive the honor in the category of 'Excellence in Self-Discovery Efforts.'
Seo-gu operated its own community human network using big data and discovered a total of 6,094 crisis households during the period, providing customized welfare services to 3,022 of them.
In particular, continuous attention and service support were maintained to prevent welfare crisis households from occurring among high-risk groups vulnerable in winter by conducting planned surveys of street homeless people and comprehensive inspections for boiler checks and repairs.
Along with this, Seo-gu made great efforts to eliminate welfare blind spots by carrying out various cooperative projects with private organizations, such as the Seo-gu One Family Sharing Project, Warm Winter Campaign, and Wish Fulfillment Project.
Seo-gu's interest and efforts in discovering welfare demanders and providing service support during last winter are evaluated to have borne fruit.
A Seo-gu official said, “We will strive to become an advanced welfare Seo-gu by expanding the discovery and support of crisis households through the efficient operation of related systems, not limited to any particular season.”
