[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] The Nambu Fire Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City recently urged special caution regarding fire damage caused by sparks during welding work, as the number of new construction sites has increased, on the 20th.
According to the Nambu Fire Station, on May 14th in Deoknam-dong, Nam-gu, sparks from welding work spread to surrounding dry grass, resulting in the destruction of approximately 200 pyeong and property damage worth about 770,000 won.
The sparks generated during welding work are high-temperature bodies ranging from about 1600℃ to 3000℃, and in some cases, sparks remain for a considerable time before igniting.
Especially because of their small size, when sparks fall into gaps at construction sites, most cases go unnoticed until full combustion begins.
The Nambu Fire Station has distributed temporary fire facility manuals, designated fire watchers, provided fire extinguisher usage training, and guided autonomous safety management such as fire safety rules at construction sites during welding work, targeting new construction sites in the jurisdiction, and held meetings with related organizations.
Additionally, by operating a designated executive in charge system and conducting fire safety consulting at least once a month, they are making every effort to prevent fires at construction sites.
