[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Independent candidate Park Hongryul, former mayor of Mokpo, Jeonnam, announced on the 20th that he held a kickoff rally near Peace Plaza and officially started his election campaign.

On the first official day of the election campaign on the 19th at 7 p.m., a concentrated rally was held where independent local council candidates who voluntarily participated, supporters, and citizens gathered up to the nearby shopping street road, pledging victory for the independent candidates.

Park Hongryul, candidate for Mokpo mayor, introduced the achievements of the 6th local government, saying, "After 4 years, I am able to reveal the truth," and "I accomplished many things such as establishing a tourism economic axis through the successful 32-year citizen's long-awaited marine cable car, creating an economic axis through the successful sale of the Daeyang industrial complex, attracting the West Coast Coast Guard maintenance depot, and hosting the National Sports Festival."

He continued, "For the next 4 years, I will create a young city Mokpo that attracts youth," promising, "I will realize long-awaited projects such as establishing a youth smart industrial complex, advancing as an international marine tourism city, and opening a high school and attracting a medical school in the new downtown area."

Earlier, Son Hyewon, the general committee chairperson who took the podium, said, "As a citizen of Mokpo, I came to stay in Mokpo and participate in the election together," and criticized, "The Democratic Party in Honam is turning its back on public sentiment due to an unfair primary."
