[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a special travel advisory for the entire Sri Lanka amid escalating political instability.
On the 20th, the Ministry explained, "This measure follows the Sri Lankan government's declaration of a state of emergency to protect public order and maintain the supply of essential goods and services."
When a special travel advisory is issued, it has an effect equivalent to a Level 3 travel alert, or red alert. Residents are advised to evacuate unless for urgent reasons, and travelers are recommended to cancel or postpone their trips.
The Sri Lankan government declared the first state of emergency from April 1 to 3, and since the 7th, has declared a second state of emergency. Due to the worst economic crisis, protests demanding the resignation of the government have been ongoing in Sri Lanka.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged, "If you are staying locally, please exercise special caution for your personal safety by avoiding areas where protests occur, such as Colombo, and refraining from unnecessary outings," adding, "We will closely monitor the situation in Sri Lanka and review whether to maintain the special travel advisory."
