Jeongeup-si and Jeonbuk Science College Promote 'Rural Talent Sharing Project'

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is launching the ‘Nongchon Jaeneung Nanum Project’ to improve the quality of life for farmers and revitalize rural communities.

According to the city on the 20th, the ‘Nongchon Jaeneung Nanum Project’ is a program that utilizes the talents and specialties of university students to carry out various volunteer activities, enhancing understanding of rural society and promoting balanced development in rural areas.

Through this project, the city plans to promote resident health care, welfare improvement, village environment enhancement, and community revitalization needed in rural areas, thereby injecting vitality into rural regions.

This year, about 150 professors and students from 11 departments including Nursing, Optometry, and Design at Jeonbuk Science University will participate in the volunteer activities.

From this month until December, various talent-sharing services in medical care, welfare, culture, and more will be provided to eight villages in the eup and myeon areas, including Jangmun Village in Deokcheon-myeon.

Main activities include ▲early prevention of chronic diseases ▲oral health management ▲vision tests and provision of reading glasses ▲development of nutritional diets for the elderly ▲hair and beauty services ▲happy photo shoots ▲indoor environment decoration ▲mailbox installation ▲multicultural family accompaniment programs, and other activities tailored to the needs of rural residents.

Especially this year, with the lifting of COVID-19 social distancing measures, the rural talent-sharing festival, which could not be held for the past two years, is also planned.

A city official said, “We expect to revitalize rural villages with a large elderly population by utilizing the diverse talents and specialties of university students,” adding, “Since the satisfaction of rural residents is high, we will continue to strive to provide various benefits to more rural areas.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Nongchon Jaeneung Nanum Project’ has been promoted for 10 years since 2013 by Jeongeup City and Jeonbuk Science University. So far, various talent-sharing activities have been carried out in 56 villages across 19 eup, myeon, and dong areas.
