Gochang-gun to Host Family Musical 'The Short-Necked Giraffe Jipi' on the 26th

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun announced on the 20th that the family musical ‘The Short-Necked Giraffe Jippy’ will be performed at 7:30 PM on the 26th at the Gochang Cultural Center in celebration of Family Month in May.

‘The Short-Necked Giraffe Jippy’ is a family musical adapted from the original fairy tale by bestselling author Ko Jung-wook. Through the giraffe ‘Jippy,’ it vividly and entertainingly conveys the theme that ‘just because someone is different from me does not mean they are wrong, and therefore they should not be hated.’

Since its premiere in 2012, it has won a total of six awards, including the Grand Prize at the Seoul Children’s Theater Awards and major theater festivals.

In the theater festival’s judging comments, it was highly praised as “a work with outstanding completeness in terms of plot structure, stage, music, as well as audience response, entertainment, and originality.”

The family musical ‘The Short-Necked Giraffe Jippy’ depicts the touching story of how Jippy, who was ostracized by other animals for having a shorter neck than ordinary giraffes, and Tonga the zebra, who is in a similar situation, overcome the crisis in the peaceful African savannah caused by the appearance of poachers.

An official from the county’s Culture and Arts Department said, “In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Children’s Day and Family Month, we have prepared a family musical that children and the whole family can enjoy together. The songs sung by the animals from the fairy tale on stage and the exciting dances are expected to nurture children’s emotions.”
