[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] Hong Tae-yong, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Gimhae, Gyeongnam, held an official election campaign kickoff ceremony on the 19th.
The kickoff ceremony was attended by Park Wan-su, candidate for governor of Gyeongnam Province, Kim Seong-woo, chairman of the Gimhae-eul party committee, former National Assembly member Kim Jeong-gwon, and candidates for city and provincial council.
Candidate Hong Tae-yong explained, “The Democratic Party of Korea has been in charge of city administration for 12 years, but according to data released by the Love for the Nation Research Institute on May 10, Gimhae ranked 74th out of 75 local governments nationwide and was last among the 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam.”
He added, “From 2017 to this year, Gimhae’s debt increased by 200 billion won,” and said, “While citizens’ pockets are emptying, the budget doubled from 1.2 trillion won. Can you agree with boasting about managing finances well just by numbers?”
Introducing himself as “a doctor-turned-politician who is accustomed to communicating with patients and guardians for accurate diagnosis and treatment,” he emphasized, “A person with innovation and management mindset should lead Gimhae City.”
Although his administrative experience may be relatively inferior to candidate Heo Seong-gon, he argued that an important virtue of a leader is how well they communicate with the 2,000 administrative experts at city hall and reflect the will of the citizens.
Candidate Hong said, “I want to throw my remaining political life and everything into this local election to create a new and dynamic Gimhae that citizens desire together,” and asked for support, saying, “With a burning mind for communication, I will work for my hometown Gimhae, which is collapsing and losing competitiveness, together with the administrative masters at city hall.”
