[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Former U.S. President George W. Bush made a verbal slip during a speech, mistakenly referring to Ukraine as Iraq.
On the 19th (local time), according to U.S. media, former President Bush criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine during an event held in Dallas, Texas, saying, "The Iraq invasion was a completely unjust and cruel decision made by one person."
He then shook his head and corrected himself, saying, "I meant Ukraine." Former President Bush explained it was "because of my age," which caused laughter among the audience.
However, the verbal slip quickly spread on social media (SNS) that day. In particular, public opinion criticized former President Bush for seemingly making light of the Iraq invasion. During his administration, Bush invaded Iraq on the grounds that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths.
However, since weapons of mass destruction were not found in Iraq, the invasion was criticized as unjustified.
