EdisonINNO, World's First Commercialization of Bioabsorbable Metal 'Green Light'... China Clinical Trials in Second Half of This Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Edison Inno's bioabsorbable metal 'Resomet,' developed for the first time in the world, is about to undergo clinical trials in Korea.

Global orthopedic medical device specialist Edison Inno (formerly U&AI) announced on the 19th that it received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for the clinical trial plan of Resomet II CMF plate, a bioabsorbable metal material for maxillofacial plastic surgery.

Resomet is evaluated as a revolutionary material because it is absorbed by the human body during fracture surgery, eliminating the need for metal removal surgery. Edison Inno developed the bioabsorbable metal 'Resomet' for the first time in the world in 2015 and signed an exclusive license agreement with Shandong Buchang Pharmaceuticals in China in 2016. Since then, it has obtained European CE certification and passed all tests required for clinical trial approval, including contracts for clinical trial outsourcing and tests at domestic laboratories in China.

According to GlobalData analysis, the trauma fixation device market is expected to grow from $5.3 billion (approximately 6.75 trillion KRW) in 2021 to $5.9 billion (approximately 7.51 trillion KRW) by 2030.

An Edison Inno official said, "Although the clinical trial in China, which was being promoted for overseas market entry after developing Resomet, was delayed due to the spread of COVID-19, it will proceed in earnest from the second half of the year," adding, "With the approval of the domestic clinical trial plan, we will accelerate preparations for commercialization both domestically and internationally."

Edison Inno has entered the electric vehicle market, a promising future industry, by starting an electric vehicle parts business to diversify its operations. It has secured a cash cow by supplying battery packs to Edison Motors and recently succeeded in attracting investment for new businesses related to space and aviation. The company is focusing on securing future growth engines.
