20s Woman Assaulting Children and Teachers at Daycare "Don't Remember Specific Details Due to Intoxication"

[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A woman in her 20s accused of assaulting children and teachers at a daycare center testified in court that she "does not remember the specific circumstances due to being intoxicated."

On the 19th, Judge Hong Soon-wook of the Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 5 held the first trial of Ms. A, a woman in her 20s indicted on charges of injury, at around 10:20 a.m.

Ms. A is accused of provoking children at a playground in front of a daycare center in Dongdaemun-gu around 2 p.m. on March 4, kicking a child's buttocks, removing a child's mask, and scratching the child's face with her fingernails. During this incident, she also swung punches at two daycare teachers and broke the nose bone of one teacher.

Ms. A's defense attorney stated at the trial, "She drank excessively at a close friend's housewarming party late the previous night," adding, "She only remembers that there was a fight but does not recall the specific details." The defense also mentioned plans to claim diminished mental capacity and submit related evidence in future arguments.

Furthermore, Ms. A testified that she usually does not exhibit violent behavior even when drinking and that this was the first time such an incident occurred. She said, "I was embarrassed after sobering up," and "This is the first time something like this has happened." At the conclusion of the trial, Ms. A's side submitted a letter of apology.

The defense also announced plans to reach a settlement with the two victims.
