[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Yesterday, the number of new COVID-19 cases slightly decreased compared to the previous day, while the number of critically ill patients hospitalized fell below 300 for the first time in 95 days.


According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 19th, as of midnight, 28,130 new COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the total cumulative cases to 17,889,849.


The number of new cases decreased by 3,222 compared to the previous day (31,352). Compared to a week ago on the 12th (35,896), it decreased by 7,766. The weekly incidence rate per 100,000 population was 54.0, down 17 from 71.0 on the 12th, showing a declining trend in cases.


The number of critically ill patients was 274, marking the 200s for the first time in 95 days since February 13. This is 39 fewer than the previous day's 313. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 16.9%, with 13.9% in the metropolitan area and 24.7% in non-metropolitan areas.


The number of new deaths due to COVID-19 was 40. The total cumulative deaths stand at 23,842, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.


With 28,491 new patients entering home treatment yesterday, the total number of patients under home treatment as of midnight is 171,637. Among them, 12,110 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.


On the 18th, 55,671 elderly people aged 60 and over received their fourth vaccination dose, bringing the fourth dose vaccination rate for this age group to 25.6%.
