[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City has selected 15 local companies in the bio, robotics, and wireless communication sectors as Star Companies.
According to the city on the 19th, the Star Companies selected this year include eight companies in the biomedical field: D&C Company Co., Ltd., Vinoc Co., Ltd., Smart Korea Co., Ltd., Small Lab Co., Ltd., Y-Biologics Co., Ltd., Witech Corporation Co., Ltd., Cosmo Bio Co., Ltd., and Humas Co., Ltd.; one company in the intelligent robotics field: Doosung Technology Co., Ltd.; and six companies in the next-generation wireless communication field: Duksan Nepcore Co., Ltd., Latecron Co., Ltd., Soltop Co., Ltd., Sysmate Co., Ltd., ASB Co., Ltd., and GPNE Co., Ltd.
The Star Company status is maintained for three years (up to five years), and in the first year of designation, each company receives support of up to 40 million KRW for growth strategy consulting, global marketing strategy development, commercialization R&D planning, customized commercialization, and organizational diagnosis.
From the following year, companies can receive up to 200 million KRW annually for two years, totaling a maximum of 400 million KRW, to support commercialization research and development.
The city introduced the Star Company fostering project in 2018 and has been selecting and intensively nurturing around 15 companies annually.
Through this, last year, the companies achieved an 8.7% increase in sales compared to the previous year, created 186 new jobs, and filed 45 patent applications.
In particular, last year’s Star Company Jin System Co., Ltd. achieved listing on KOSDAQ and received the 10 million USD Export Tower award, while Panajin Co., Ltd. stood out by being selected as a global small giant company.
Additionally, Suzentec Co., Ltd. was selected as one of the 1000 National Representatives of Innovative Companies, and Vision Semicon Co., Ltd. received the Jang Young-sil International Science and Culture Award and was selected as a Proud SME Person in the first quarter of 2022.
Kwon Kyung-min, head of the city’s Future Industry Division, said, “By discovering and providing focused support to Star Companies that will develop together with the region, we will lay the foundation for these companies to grow into global small giants.”
Meanwhile, Star Companies are selected from local core industry-related companies headquartered in Daejeon with 10 or more regular employees and an average sales revenue of 5 billion KRW to less than 40 billion KRW over the past three years (for the biomedical industry, 2.5 billion KRW to less than 40 billion KRW over the past three years).
As of this year, a total of 66 companies have been selected as Star Companies.
