Gwangju Nam-gu, Accessibility Improvements for 11 Housing Units for Disabled Residents

Gwangju Nam-gu, Accessibility Improvements for 11 Housing Units for Disabled Residents

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju, is set to actively promote a housing renovation project to improve the living environment for low-income disabled households in the district.

On the 18th, Nam-gu announced, "We will carry out the '2022 Disabled Housing Renovation Project,' investing 41.6 million KRW to install residential convenience facilities to ensure that low-income disabled individuals can live and move comfortably at home." They added, "Through this, we plan to provide daily life convenience to members of disabled households in the district."

This year, a total of 11 disabled households in the district will have their living environments improved.

Seven disabled households are located in Daechon-dong, a rural area, and four disabled households live in urban areas.

The eligible households are those among the housing-vulnerable who have long experienced significant restrictions in daily or social life due to physical or mental disabilities as defined in Article 2 of the Disabled Welfare Act. Support is provided only to households whose income is below the previous year's average monthly income of urban worker households.

Accordingly, based on the Act on Support for Housing Vulnerable, Nam-gu will provide project funds within a range of up to 3.8 million KRW per household for the renovation and improvement of convenience facilities for the disabled. This project is expected to be actively carried out starting in June.

The parts that can be repaired with the project funds include bathrooms, kitchen and bathroom repairs, and renovation of entrance and living room doors.

A Nam-gu official stated, "We will do our best to promote related projects so that all members of low-income disabled households residing in the district can live their daily lives without inconvenience."
