[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Artificial intelligence, robotics, and future cars were selected as representative invention technologies that will change the future of the Republic of Korea.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) selected and announced the "Top 10 Invention Technologies That Will Change Korea's Tomorrow" in celebration of the "57th Invention Day (May 19)."
The Top 10 invention technologies were chosen through a public vote conducted from the 9th to the 15th via KIPO's Facebook and policy mail to gather public opinions.
The number one invention technology chosen by the public was artificial intelligence, accounting for 15.1% of all valid responses.
Currently, Korea ranks 4th in the world in the number of patent applications in the field of artificial intelligence technology. AI technology is also included in the future strategic industries that the new government is focusing on alongside semiconductor and battery technologies.
Following artificial intelligence, the top five invention technologies included robotics (2nd), future cars (3rd), hydrogen (4th), and energy (5th).
Among these, robotics technology accounted for 13.8% of valid responses, and future car technology accounted for 10.4% of all valid responses. Like artificial intelligence, these technologies are also part of the future strategic industries that the new government plans to foster.
KIPO analyzes this as a sign that there is a national consensus on the future strategic industry sectors that the new government is nurturing to enhance economic security and national competitiveness.
The Top 10 invention technologies list also included bio (6th), space and aviation (7th), new materials (8th), battery (9th), and semiconductor (10th).
KIPO spokesperson Lee Dae-won said, "Artificial intelligence, which the new government plans to foster as a future strategic industry, was selected as the number one invention technology that will change Korea's tomorrow. This confirms the public support for the future strategic industries that the government has decided to support to drive economic re-acceleration."
Meanwhile, the public vote conducted by KIPO asked participants to select three of the top 10 invention technologies they thought were most important among next-generation invention technologies such as display, robotics, future cars, bio, semiconductor, battery, cybersecurity, hydrogen, supercomputers, new materials, quantum, energy, space and aviation, artificial intelligence, and communications (5G·6G).
A total of 768 citizens participated in the vote, with 2,213 valid responses counted.
