[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Yoo Kyung-jun, head of the People Power Party's Seoul mayoral election campaign headquarters, strongly criticized Song Young-gil, the Democratic Party candidate, on the 17th for his real estate tax reduction pledge, calling it "a mere copy and paste of the People Power Party's party line."

Yoo stated recently on Facebook, "Most of the major pledges announced by candidate Song Young-gil have already been announced by the People Power Party's Policy Committee or the People Power Party Real Estate Official Price Center, or are bills proposed by People Power Party lawmakers in the National Assembly but stalled due to opposition from the Democratic Party," expressing this view.

Earlier, candidate Song proposed raising the comprehensive real estate holding tax (종부세) threshold for multi-homeowners from 600 million won to 1.1 billion won, abolishing the comprehensive real estate holding tax for single-homeowners except for ultra-high-priced homes, and reducing property tax by more than 50% for "good landlords."

Regarding this, Yoo said, "The temporary two-homeowner comprehensive real estate holding tax reduction is the same content as bills already proposed by numerous People Power Party lawmakers, and the expansion of the monthly rent tax credit also borrows part of the content currently being promoted at the transition committee level," adding, "If candidate Song and the Democratic Party have now come to their senses and decided to work with the People Power Party to normalize the real estate market, it would be welcome, but no Seoul citizen would believe this to be the true intention of the Democratic Party."

He continued, "During the last Seoul mayoral by-election, then-candidate Park Young-sun's pledge on the official price ceiling was exactly copied from the '5% official price ceiling bill' advocated by the People Power Party Real Estate Official Price Verification Center, with only slight changes in figures," and criticized, "After the election defeat, the Democratic Party did not even review this, and there has been no progress to date."
