[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] It has been revealed that a teenage white supremacist who killed 10 Black people in a shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, immediately attempted to attack other stores to kill more Black people.
Joseph Gramaglia, Buffalo Police Commissioner, told ABC News on the 16th (local time), "The shooter drove a car and tried to shoot more Black people along Jefferson Avenue," revealing this.
The police have secured evidence showing that 18-year-old white male Payton Gendron, who was arrested at the scene, intended to additionally attack other large supermarkets. John Flynn, Erie County District Attorney of New York State, also said, "The suspect appears to have planned to kill more Black people."
Gendron stormed into a supermarket in a predominantly Black area of Buffalo on the 14th, dressed in military uniform and body armor, and opened fire. All 10 deceased victims were Black, and among the 13 people shot, 11 were Black.
In a 180-page manifesto posted online related to this crime, Gendron defined himself as a white supremacist who worships fascism. He also mentioned the "replacement theory," a white supremacist conspiracy theory that claims American white society and culture will be replaced by people of color, expressing hatred toward people of color and immigrants. Previously, Gendron had a history of being mentally evaluated after writing about wanting to kill people and commit suicide during his high school years.
Gendron has been charged with first-degree murder but does not admit to the charges. The prosecution plans to additionally indict him on federal hate crime charges, judging the shooting to be Gendron's sole act.
Meanwhile, Ant?nio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, condemned the Buffalo shooting incident as "an evil act of racist violent extremism."
Farhan Haq, UN spokesperson, stated in a press release, "The Secretary-General strongly condemns all forms of racism and discrimination based on race, religion, belief, or nationality in the strongest terms," adding, "We must work together to create a more peaceful and inclusive society."
