'Life Love Kit' for Post-Management of Suicide Attempters Visiting Emergency Rooms Receives High Praise in Service Design
Integration and Development of 'Service Design' and 'Suicide Prevention Projects'... Post-Management of Suicide Attempters in Emergency Rooms of 21 Hospitals
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 17th that the 'Life Love Kit' won the Design Award in the Service Design category at the International Design (IF) Awards, one of the world's top three design awards.
This year, the International Design (IF) Awards received 10,776 entries from countries around the world, with 270 works winning awards. Seoul enhanced its international reputation as the 'Life Love Kit - 7 Days Challenge,' developed for post-management of suicide attempters, won the Design Award in the Service Design category.
The 'Life Love Kit - 7 Days Challenge' is a kit created to strengthen post-management, considering the high risk of suicide even after suicide attempters visit the emergency room, receive treatment, and are discharged. Last year, Seoul distributed the kit to 21 hospitals conducting emergency room-based post-management projects for suicide attempters and is utilizing it for post-management of suicide attempters.
The Life Love Kit consists of activities to help stabilize the recipient's mind from 'Day 1 to Day 7,' includes community information for linkage with mental health welfare centers and suicide prevention centers, letter paper, and a guidebook for the protectors of suicide attempters, thus providing protective measures. Seoul explained that this is a pioneering case developed by combining the concept of 'service design' with 'suicide prevention projects.'
The Seoul Suicide Prevention Center will hold an 'International Design (IF) Awards Winning Commemorative Seminar' on the day to share this award-winning case. Park Yumi, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Citizen Health Bureau, said, "I hope that suicide attempters and their protectors who visit hospital emergency rooms will use the Life Love Kit to care for their minds a little more and experience the '7-day miracle' of feeling the preciousness of life," adding, "Seoul will conduct a study on the effectiveness of the Life Love Kit this year and reflect the results in policies to further strengthen suicide prevention projects."
