Gumi City, First in Gyeongbuk Province to Receive 'Re-Certification' as an International Safe City... Final Online Evaluation in 7 Areas Gumi City, Gyeongbuk, has successfully renewed its certification based on achievements over the past five years from the International Safe City Certification Center.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Gumi City in Gyeongbuk has received re-certification from the International Safe Community.

On the 16th, Gumi City announced that it received re-certification from the International Safe Community Certification Center (ISCCC) in Stockholm, Sweden, based on five years of achievements since its initial certification in 2017.

From the 11th to the 12th, over two days, the final certification was granted after a document review and online evaluation, attended by more than 30 working committee members from various divisions, including Dale Hanson (Australia), chairman of ISCCC, at the city hall situation room.

The two-day evaluation included presentations on seven areas and on-site introductions of exemplary projects, conducted through both online and offline methods.

Since 2014, the city began establishing a basic plan for an international safe community, enacted the Gumi City Safe Community Ordinance in 2015, and formed the Safe Community Committee and working committees. In 2017, Gumi became the 12th city nationwide and the first in Gyeongbuk to be certified as an international safe community.

Since then, the city has been promoting over 100 customized safety projects across seven areas to enhance citizens' perception of safety and establish an advanced safety culture.

Going forward, the city plans to discover customized projects that meet citizens' needs and build a second phase of the international safe community after re-certification by spreading safety culture and activating safety cooperation networks.

Bae Yong-su, Deputy Mayor of Gumi, said, “Even after re-certification, we will do our best to further develop the safe city programs and create a safe Gumi for all citizens.”
