[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Sangmyung University announced on the 16th that it held a commemorative ceremony at Daeshin Hall on the Seoul campus to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the academy's establishment.
The ceremony was attended by about 300 people, including Chairman Kang Taebeom, President Hong Seongtae, faculty, and students. Awards were presented to long-term employees, and a performance featuring professors and students from the Department of Music was held.
Chairman Kang Taebeom said, "Let us move forward vigorously together with a sense of community, doing our best in our respective positions so that Sangmyung Academy can be reborn as a global prestigious private school and make a new leap forward."
President Hong Seongtae said in his congratulatory speech, "For the past 85 years, Sangmyung has educated talented individuals who have become the driving force behind South Korea's growth and demonstrated their capabilities in various fields of society. We look forward to the day when we celebrate the 100th anniversary as a proud brand of South Korea and the world through our efforts and passion."
To mark the 85th anniversary of the academy's establishment, events with students will be held throughout the campus. Starting on the 18th, an E-sports tournament organized by the college student councils, college-specific sports competitions, club performances, and exhibitions will take place.
