[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Hong Taeyong, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Gimhae, Gyeongnam, opened his election office on the afternoon of the 14th.
The opening ceremony, held under the theme of "Local Power Change after 12 Years," was attended by about 1,000 people including party leader Lee Jun-seok, Gyeongnam Governor candidate Park Wan-soo, Superintendent of Education candidate Kim Sang-kwon, National Assembly member Yoon Young-seok of Yangsan Gap, Gyeongnam Party Committee Chairman Lee Dal-gon, party members, and citizens.
Primary candidates Hwang Jeon-won and Kwon Tong-il, Kim Seong-woo, chairman of the Gimhae-eul party committee, and city and provincial council candidates also participated, pledging to lead the local election to victory as one team.
Leader Lee Jun-seok said, "Before Gimhae was a stronghold of the Democratic Party, it is a living space where hundreds of thousands of Gimhae citizens have settled and live," adding, "Our People Power Party has the confidence to develop Gimhae City and has fielded a candidate."
He emphasized, "Since 2012, the Democratic Party has led elections in this region more as a political slogan than with concern for the area," and said, "Candidate Hong Taeyong is a figure who can develop Gyeongnam and Gimhae with a philosophy of fairness and common sense that looks only to the people," then wished for Hong’s victory by presenting him with shoes.
Candidate Park Wan-soo said, "The Democratic Party has controlled Gimhae city administration for 12 years, and if they have done wrong, it is natural to change," and requested, "As a gubernatorial candidate, I will work hard, so in Gimhae, please unite tightly around candidate Hong Taeyong along with provincial and city council candidates to bring change to Gimhae."
Candidate Hong Taeyong pointed out, "Under the Democratic Party’s monopoly for 12 years, balance and checks have long disappeared," and said, "Living conditions such as education, culture, and environment have worsened day by day, eventually turning the city into a colorless and odorless place lacking appeal, causing people to leave."
He argued, "Change and innovation that boldly discard the old leadership blocking development are necessary," and "For that, a regime change in Gimhae is absolutely necessary."
After the opening ceremony, candidate Hong, along with leader Lee and candidate Park, visited Naedong Mukja Alley and other places to meet citizens and appeal for support.
