[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced that Hamyang’s ‘Supsok Unnideul’ has been selected as the final project recipient in this year’s Youth Village Making Support Project, sponsored by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Youth Village Making Support Project is a national government-funded contest project that supports youth seeking new opportunities in their local areas by providing youth spaces, local living experiences, and youth entrepreneurship support.
Youth organizations selected for this project receive up to 600 million KRW in national funding over a maximum of three years to create youth villages that coexist with their communities.
This year, 133 youth organizations nationwide applied, and after the first round of document screening, 34 teams were selected. Following on-site inspections and presentation evaluations, 12 teams, including Hamyang-gun’s Supsok Unnideul, were chosen as the final recipients.
The ‘Supsok Unnideul’ team devised the project titled ‘Delicious Stories of Country Grandma and City Granddaughter, Thank You! Grandma’ to connect grandmothers and youth settled in the region, aiming to create a warm youth village filled with delicious recipes and stories from the elders.
Starting in June, the Hamyang-gun youth village plans to collaborate with urban regeneration center projects such as Yongpyeong-ri Jirisan Hamyang Market and I-eun-ri youth space to operate various programs including ‘Making Snacks with Grandmothers,’ ‘Developing Hamyang Rice Bread with Youth Bakers,’ ‘Learning Life Skills from Local Artists,’ and ‘Operating a Village Broadcasting Station with Local Residents.’ They are currently recruiting youth participants.
Since September 2021, the county has been operating the ‘Seohadaum Youth Residence Platform’ as a communication hub space for cities and counties, conducting programs such as one-week youth living and local education, with over 40 external youth participating and actively engaging in activities.
Kang Seung-je, Acting County Governor, said, “Through the Youth Village Making Project, I hope that youth visiting Hamyang-gun and local residents will develop together in mutual prosperity, enabling new challenges and regional settlement for youth.” He added, “The county will also spare no effort to actively support youth so they can grow together with the region.”
