Gwangju Seo-gu Operates 'Used Battery Intensive Collection Period' Until the 27th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 16th that it will operate a 'Used Battery Intensive Collection Period' until the 27th to encourage residents' voluntary practice of resource circulation and increase the recycling rate of useful metal resources.

Used batteries contain heavy metals such as mercury and cadmium, and if properly separated and disposed of, useful metal resources such as zinc and nickel can be recovered.

To increase the collection rate of used batteries, Seo-gu has changed the exchange policy during the intensive collection period from exchanging 1 set (2 pieces) of new batteries for every 20 used batteries to exchanging 1 set of new batteries for every 10 used batteries collected.

Last year, Seo-gu collected a total of 21 tons of used batteries, and this year, the collection target is set at 30 tons.

Residents who wish to exchange for new batteries can visit the nearest administrative welfare center or the district office's cleaning administration department for the exchange.
