[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The Korean National Police University announced on the 16th the selection criteria and schedule for transfer students, which it is recruiting for the first time since its establishment in 1979.
On this day, the Police University announced the 2023 academic year first transfer student recruitment guidelines, including the content that 50 students will be selected without gender distinction, with 25 students each for the general university student track and the in-service police officer track. According to the guidelines, the common eligibility requirements for each track include credit completion and grade standards. Students must have completed (or be expected to complete) at least four semesters (2nd year) at a four-year university or higher and earned at least 63 credits. For junior colleges, graduation (or expected graduation) is required, and for the Academic Credit Bank System, at least 70 credits must be earned. Grades must average 80 points or higher (on a 100-point scale) from the previous university.
Additionally, applicants must be Korean nationals aged between 17 and under 44 in the year of transfer (born between January 1, 1979, and December 31, 2006). Dual nationals must complete the nationality renunciation process by the day before admission. In-service police officers must have at least three years of actual service experience and meet the official English test score requirements such as TOEIC. After application submission, a separate screening by the National Police Agency and city/provincial police agencies will recommend five times the number of candidates (125 people) who will be qualified to take the first written exam.
Application submission will be held from August 26 to September 5. The first written exam will take place on November 12. General university students will be tested in two subjects: English and verbal logic, while in-service police officers will take a single subject exam in criminal law. Final successful candidates will be determined by the total score out of 100 points, combining the first written exam, physical fitness test, and interview scores, ranked by highest score per track. The 50 final successful candidates will transfer directly into the third year of the Police University for the 2023 academic year, complete a two-year regular education course, and then be appointed as police inspectors.
The transfer admission system was introduced to open the doors of the Police University more widely and recruit talented individuals with diverse experiences. The Police University explained that after announcing the transfer admission plan in May last year, it clarified the eligibility requirements and finalized the detailed exam schedule, leading to the announcement of the recruitment guidelines on this day. Detailed information can be found on the Police University website under 'Transfer Student Recruitment Guidelines' and 'Police University Transfer Admission Q&A.'
