[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Se-eun] Lee Jae-myung, the General Election Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, engaged in a heated exchange with Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, over a scene from an election campaign.

On the 15th, Lee Jun-seok uploaded a video on his Facebook page showing Lee Jae-myung, who is running in the Incheon Gyeyang-eul by-election for the National Assembly, giving an impromptu speech. In the photo, Lee Jae-myung was standing on a bench while delivering his speech.

Lee Jun-seok criticized, "Benches are meant for sitting, not for standing on with shoes like that," adding, "Moreover, when a candidate for the National Assembly acts like this, others do not feel any sense of problem and even the mayoral candidates follow suit one after another."

During this exchange, the controversy over President Yoon Seok-youl’s 'train shoe' incident during his presidential campaign was also brought up.

Lee Jun-seok said, "The President apologized promptly after causing controversy by briefly putting his leg up on a train seat during his candidacy," and emphasized, "All Democratic Party candidates in this photo, including candidate Lee Jae-myung, should issue a prompt apology."

Earlier in February, President Yoon was criticized for boarding a campaign train on the Honam Line and resting his leg, with shoes on, on the front seat of the train. At the time, President Yoon stated, "I regret the lack of attention to detail."

In response to Lee Jun-seok’s criticism, Lee Jae-myung’s side rebutted that the site was cleaned immediately after the speech.

They further explained, "This (cleaning) has been consistently maintained by the People Power Party even before the 'train shoe' controversy during the presidential election."

They also released photos showing campaign staff tidying up the bench after the speech and insisted, "Lee Jun-seok, who distorted the facts without checking the context, should immediately apologize and correct the facts."
