According to the political circles in Jeonnam on the 15th, the registration for candidates in the June 1 local elections closed on the 13th, and in Jeonnam, out of 55 electoral districts, 26 districts, accounting for 47.2%, had only one candidate registered, resulting in unopposed election.
All candidates confirmed to be elected unopposed belong to the Democratic Party of Korea. Compared to the 2018 local elections where 7 Jeonnam Provincial Council members were elected unopposed, this election has more than tripled that number with 26 candidates, producing the highest number of unopposed elected members in history.
The unopposed elected candidates at the city level are Choi Seon-guk in Mokpo District 1, Park Moon-ok in Mokpo District 3, Jeon Gyeong-seon in Mokpo District 5, Lee Gwang-il in Yeosu District 1, Kang Moon-seong in Yeosu District 3, Choi Byeong-yong in Yeosu District 5, Joo Jong-seop in Yeosu District 6, Han Chun-ok in Suncheon District 2, Seo Dong-wook in Suncheon District 4, Kim Jin-nam in Suncheon District 5, Shin Min-ho in Suncheon District 6, Kim Jeong-i in Suncheon District 8, Choi Myeong-su in Naju District 2, and Kim Tae-gyun in Gwangyang District 3.
At the county level, the elected candidates are Park Jong-won in Damyang District 1, Jeong Cheol in Jangseong District 1, Song Hyeong-gon in Goheung District 1, Lee Dong-hyun in Boseong District 2, Im Ji-rak in Hwasun District 1, Ryu Gi-jun in Hwasun District 2, Shin Ui-jun in Wando District 2, Kim Seong-il in Haenam District 1, Son Nam-il in Yeongam District 2, Jeong Gil-su in Muan District 1, Na Gwang-guk in Muan District 2, and Park Won-jong in Yeonggwang District 1.
Those elected unopposed cannot campaign from the 14th and will officially become elected members after the election on June 1.
