[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] The European Union (EU) announced on the 13th (local time) that it will provide an additional 500 million euros (520 million dollars, 640 billion won) worth of military aid to Ukraine, according to Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

At the G7 Foreign Ministers' meeting held in Germany on the same day, Borrell stated that the additional military aid will mainly consist of heavy weapons such as tanks and artillery, and that the total aid amount will reach 2 billion euros (approximately 2.6676 trillion won).

He pointed out that in early April, when the EU's military aid to Ukraine was around 1 billion euros, "European countries pay Russia about 1 billion euros daily for energy purchases such as Russian oil and gas."

He explained, "This will be a new stimulus for military aid," adding, "We will put more pressure on Russia through continued economic sanctions, international isolation of Russia, and countering misinformation."

Borrell also expressed optimism that the EU's ban on Russian oil will be agreed upon soon.

He said, "I am confident that we will reach an agreement," and added, "We must break free from our dependence on Russian oil."
